Mentors usually reside within the same organisation as the person being mentored.
The mentor is a more experienced employee, preferably not the manager, with a similar
professional background, who teaches the employees “the ropes” in the company. The
role of a mentor can be described as a guide in the company. A mentor’s main responsibility
is to support performance and career development of his or her protege by providing
guidance, explaining the dynamics in the organisation, giving career advice and opening
doors. The mentor’s main responsibility is to the organisation, ensuring talents

is towards the coachee. A coach unlocks the potential of the coachee, helping the
